Our Story
Pairin Karnjanadit (Mam) came from humble beginnings coming from a large family in Samut Prakan, Bangkok.
Pairin Karnjanadit (Mam) came from humble beginnings coming from a large family in Samut Prakan, Bangkok. After her mother went to America whilst Mam was still young, her grandparents raised her and often Mam found herself helping in one of the family’s two restaurants that they owned.
She started to help with the chores around the kitchen after school and soon found out that she had discovered her passion for cooking and was more eager to be at the restaurant watching and learning rather than being in a classroom educating. After graduating from school Mam began working full time in her uncle’s restaurant for several years before moving to Scotland in 2006.
Since Mam’s arrival in the UK she has worked in various food establishments including The Juice Garden, Soi 101, Hummingbird, Allied Ltd and Wabi Sabi looking to hone her skills more with different style cuisine experiences.
Before embarking on this current new venture, Mam dipped her feet in the water with ‘pop up street food vending’ by opening – ‘Wabi Sabi’ at The Dockyard Social’ where Mam would prepare, cook and serve popular Japanese street food dishes at the weekends along with other vendors and was hugely popular with her customers who would often remember her friendly service and top quality dishes.
All her life Mam has been inspired by how food can tell a story and convey cultural ideas, as well as how it brings people together which is engraved in Thai culture from an early age.
The skill set Mam gained at Wabi Sabi - ‘The Dockyard Social’ gave her the confidence to make the jump to opening ‘Mam’s Thai Kitchen’ on a full time basis thus being able to put her own stamp on “Thai Street Food”
Mam creates her own recipes, and her home city of Bangkok has a strong influence on the menu which combines the traditional ‘Thai curries’ and spicy salads with new cuisines and influences from other parts of Asia and western style cuisine.
